In this project, Corliss Slack documents sites in the British Isles with historical connections to the Crusades of the Middle Ages. Many of these sites are connected to objects brought home by crusaders and served as local devotional sites. Overall, this project collects examples of individual strategies for crusade remembrance in order to spark conversations about crusading practice and belief.
The project is accessible below in two forms:
- An interactive story map, which provides a spatial visualization of the project through a series of maps.
- An embedded manuscript, which includes an introduction to the project and an extensive catalogue of all sites in alphabetical order with images, histories, and relevant bibliographies.
