Library of Appalachian Preaching

The Library of Appalachian Preaching provides online access to sermons preached in Appalachia, or elsewhere by preachers with ties to the Appalachian region. It has 3 parts: searchable PDFs of the sermons themselves, biographical sketches of the preachers with links to additional information, and a User Guide, a Google Sheet that can be searched and sorted so users can readily find the sermons that are most relevant to their work.

Resources Available:

  • The Library: The homepage of the library provides an alphabetical list of all preachers included in the collection. Simply select a preacher to view a short biography and links to their associated sermons.
  • User Guide: The User Guide is intended to make the collection easier to search and navigate.  This guide includes a master list of preachers, as well as a list of all sermons, included in the collection.

The Library of Appalachian Preaching is a collaborative effort led by Dr. Robert Ellison and involving Marshall University’s Center for Sermon Studies, the MU Libraries, the Department of English, and the Digital Humanities program.
