Notre Dame Library Digital Exhibits

The Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame have several exhibits of material from their digital special collections, some Catholic-themed.

Resources Available

  • “”Preserving the Steadfastness of Your Faith:’  Catholics in the Early American Republic:” Displays examples of American Catholicism expressed through (mostly) printed texts from 1783 through the early 1840s.
  • Vestigia Vaticana:” “Vatican Footprints” focuses on the marks left by the Holy Father throughout time, space, genre, and medium, and includes manuscripts, maps, seals, and engravings as well as printed books.
  • Outsider at the Vatican:  Frederick Franck’s Drawings from the Second Vatican Council:” Documents the work of Frederick Franck, a Dutch-American artist (1909-2006) who attended the Second Vatican Council between 1962 and 1965 and drew and painted many of its delegates, as well as a variety of scenes of life at the Council.
  • “Chinese Catholic-themed Paintings from Xinxiang, Henan Province (1939-1941):”  A digital exhibit of thirty prints, made between 1939 and 1941 by Fu Jen Catholic University of Peking (CUP), from the original paintings that were commissioned by Rev. Thomas Megan, S.V.D., Prefect Apostolic of Xinxiang, Henan Province, and painted by Wang Suda, an artist trained at Fu Jen CUP
