VHMML School for Paleography and Codicology

VHMML School teaches about scripts and manuscripts, introducing learners to the sciences of paleography and codicology, as well as transcription, for Latin and Eastern Christian materials.

Resources Available

  • Scripts:  Latin, Syriac, and Arabic paleography from Late Antiquity to today
  • Folio:  Offers images of manuscript pages from various traditions across the globe and across the ages. The collection is shaped to highlight the changing history of scripts in these traditions.
  • Reference:  Searchable bibliographical resources
  • Lexicon:  Introduces terms used in manuscript studies, alphabetical and searchable by term
  • Reading Room:  Comprehensive library of manuscripts, digitized microfilms and more
  • Data Portal:  Provides option of exporting curated datasets or the complete vHMML Reading Room dataset for digital humanities projects.
  • VHMML Digital Humanities:  Provides researchers with tools for using metadata downloaded from vHMML’s Data Portal to construct digital humanities projects; includes “Malta Parish Archives” and “Giovanni d’Andrea–Mapping Law in Medieval Spain” as examples
